Lisan Al-Arab
Ibn Manzour Afriqi

In the language of the Arab, Shari'a means a place for drinking water i.e. water hole or water reservoir. Furthermore the approach to the water is also called Shari'a.

Remark: Isfahani in his Mufradat mentions that Shari'a as the place for drinking water is also a place for washing and cleansing and as such mentions the verse:

33:33. And stay quietly in your houses, and make not a dazzling display, like that of the former Times of Ignorance; and establish regular Prayer, and give regular Charity; and obey Allah and ITs/His Messenger. And Allah only wishes to remove all impurities from you, you members of the Family, and to make you pure and spotless.

Arab does not use the word Shir'a or Shari'a (for a water reservoir) unless the water is provided without interruption.

Sharh-e Golshan-e Raz
Lahiji

(Shari'a means) Communications, deeds and regulations from Allah placed upon the tongue of the prophet to provide guidelines for the servants to govern and discipline their daily lives and hereafter.

Quoted by Dr. Sajjadi in Farhang-e Istilahat Irfani

Dara: What is regulation or law from Allah i.e. Hukm, once explained or played out by the prophet, his personal version of implementation or interpretation, called Shari'a.

Example: Hukm from Allah is to worship on daily and nightly basis, but when? in what form? how many times? how long? alone? with others? (such answers are not in the Qur'an) This Hukm then explained by the Prophet e.g. to pray right before the sunrise and only bow twice a rather short prayer, individual or in group. The latter is Shari'a i.e. how the Prophet implemented and explained the Hukm from Allah.

Shir'a also means the stretch of a passageway. Religion (Din) is one but Shari'a many (varied).

It is said about this verse:

42:13  IT/He established (a Shari'a) for you (plural) as that which IT/He enjoined on Noah - the which We have sent by inspiration to you (Muhammad) - and that which We enjoined on Abraham, Moses, and Jesus: Namely, that you (plural) should remain steadfast in religion, and make no divisions therein: to those who worship other things than Allah, hard is the (way) to which you call them. Allah chooses to IT/Himself those whom IT/He pleases, and guides to IT/Himself those who turn (to IT/Him).

Indeed prophet Noah was the first to forbid the marriage to (one's own) daughters, sisters and mothers. (and therefore Muhammad has followed the same interpretation and implementation of Noah, adopted Noah's Shari'a which details the rules for marriage (marriage being a Hukm from Allah))

Shāri' is a substantial passageway people go though to reach the drinking reservoir.  An opening approaching towards the drinking reservoir is also called the same.

Shirā' is the sail for a sailboat.
